Why the Big Tent?

The Big Tent grew out of a desire to make a grassroots impact on looking after the future.

The festival was conceived in 2005 as a response to the G8 summit taking place in Gleneagles. It was established as an antidote to the idea that our future should - or could - be decided by an elite group of men meeting in an exclusive hotel. We believe in the principles of stewardship: co-operation, mutuality, solidarity and ecological long term thinking.

The festival has grown into a home for activists and thinkers, free spirits and debaters, ecologists and eco builders, musicians and artists, traditional skills practitioners and learners, who all bring a passion to sustain and nurture our fragile ecosystem for future generations.

For festival goers this is a place to meet, be inspired, relax and enjoy some great music, discover more steps to reduce carbon emissions, pledge to make a difference.

Contribute, change, celebrate.
